In moderation, wine has been proven to help ward off heart
disease and certain cancers; it is also shown to lower cholesterol and
blood pressure in some people. One study, found a 32-percent reduction

Although red is most potent, white wine has benefits, as well. Flavonoids,
present in the skin of grapes and in other fruits, vegetables and beverages,
which produce antioxidants that help curb disease. In France, despite
more than an average amount of smoking, and a diet high in fats, there
is a 42-percent lower incidence of heart disease than in America. Coincidentally,
the French, in what has become known at the "French Paradox,"
drink a lot of red wine. Studies that connect wine and disease reduction,
recommend that women consume at least one glass of wine, preferably

actually at increased risk, she said. For each glass of wine consumed,
the risk decreases. But, heavy consumption, diminishes the benefits.
